As I write my farewell post as President of YCP, it’s amazing to look back over the past 2 years to see where we were when I started and where we are now. The very first meeting I was President we had 5 people and I wondered what I had gotten myself into. We are now averaging 20 awesome young business and community leaders at our luncheons. I’m so thrilled that Megan Belcher with Belcher Chiropractic will be the 2012 President. She is full of energy, awesome new ideas and such a great asset to our community.

Huge thank you to Citizens National Bank for sponsoring our YCP luncheon. Members enjoyed a wonderful Fazoli’s meal at the Coffman Building across from their main branch. Robin Van Noy shared with YCP members about what Pawsitive K-9 Academy had to offer: proven powerful and effective training techniques, with no a nonsense training program. Time for a new head shot?

Many of us use professional head shots for our Facebook profile/fan page or our websites. It’s always nice to have a fresh look.

MaeNoelle Photography will be available on August 16th at Lee’s Ford for our luncheon to do photos. The best time to plan for is 11:30-12:00 or 1:00-1:30. Whatever works best for your schedule.

For $20 (cash or check due that day) you will receive one picture in black/white and color emailed to you for your use.

Networking (July Luncheon)

Over the past few months we have had several new members join YCP and we thought that July’s luncheon would be a perfect opportunity to get to know each other better and how we can all work together.

Our fun ice breaker was called “Candy Confessions”. We passed around a basket of candy and everyone was instructed to pick out 4-6 pieces. Here’s what the wrapper colors meant:

yellow – share your favorite hobbies

green – favorite place on earth

gold – favorite memory

red – dream job

pink – wildcard, share what you would like.

A review of what some folks shared: Nikki’s favorite memory was her wedding, Amber weaves baskets in her spare time, Lindsey was born during half time of the 1982 Superbowl game, Dr. True wants to sail around the world, One of Mrs. True’s favorite memories was their honeymoon in St. Thomas, Jim’s dream job is to be a PA announcer at Rubb, Veronica loves the coastal HWY in CA, Sarah D’s dream job is a Physician Assistant, Megan would love to be a professional shampoo tester, Dr. Belcher loves eggs, Kelly used to be a tennis instructor, Chris loves to read and lastly myself, one of my favorite places is Vancouver.

YCP Tours Wal-Mart (June Luncheon)

About 25 YCP members met in the produce section on June 21st to tour Wal-Mart. The Somerset store’s co-manager John gave us a tour of the store, including stock rooms. Here are some of the fascinating statistics:

11,000 lbs of bananas sold in one week.
125 million in sales a year
10 million of that is electronics alone
500 employees in the Somerset Wal-Mart, had has many as 750 during remodel
Bacon is the #1 selling meat product
Bananas is the #1 selling produce product
42 inch tvs is the #1 selling electronic product

After the tour we met with Store Manager Bill Rice who added to what John already had to say. Rice has been with Wal-Mart for over 25 years and worked his way up to store manager.
